The steeply eroded bank at Jones Deep has been planted this winter with willow in an attempt stabilise the bank. With agreement from the farmer this section of bank has also been fenced off and the grassed area on top planted with native alder and oak, it is hoped that without grazing the vegetation will establish and help prevent further erosion.

Members of the clubs committee have also been busy this winter planting willow along sections of the clubs waters, as well as helping combat erosion it is hoped that the fast growing willow will provide cover for both juvenile and returning adult fish.

Children from Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy have been putting their artistic skills into use to design a club logo for Llanrwst Anglers.

The schools fishing club which is run by community support worker Eifion Williams handed in several drawings done by the children. During a recent committee meeting Llanrwst anglers picked a winner. The winning design will now take pride and place on the clubs website and will be used on future membership cards / badges etc. A voucher for fishing tackle from Foxons will be given out to the winner and all members of the school fishing club who took part will receive  free membership to the club for 2016.

Not much to report from the clubs waters yet this year, a few hardy souls have been out having a go on the good water of early April and bank holiday weekend hoping for a ‘Springer’. A junior member caught a fine brown trout from Gowers (see image below), there has been a noticeable increase in the quality of brown trout in the Conwy over recent years. Brian Jones wins the award for ‘toughest sea trout angler’ braving the cold night time temperatures of April attempting to hook into a big early Conwy sea trout. I am sure if more anglers were prepared to fish the early part of the season, we would see bigger sea trout being caught.
